Mao Inoue to star in NHK morning drama

NHK has announced that Mao Inoue, 23, will star in its popular morning drama beginning next spring. The drama, titled “Ohisama,” takes place in a snowy region of Nagano and is set against the backdrop of World War II. It tells the story of a soba noodle maker.

“I’m actually very nervous about it because I had always dreamed of being on NHK’s morning drama,” Inoue told reporters. “When I finished reading the script, I was bawling over the sad story. At that point, I knew I really wanted to be part of the cast.”

Producer Komatsu Masayo said: “When I was thinking about who could express the emotions of the main character best, I pictured Mao’s fantastic smile.”

“Ohisama” will be on NHK Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m., beginning March 28.
